Business Law

Robin L. Hinson, Bradshaw & Hinson PA, Charlotte

I spent most of a summer in Rockingham reconditioning spinning frames in an unair-conditioned cotton mill. It was terribly hot, and at the end of the day you would be covered with lint and have it in your nose and throat. It taught me to want to earn a living with my mind rather than my hands. Also, it taught me to persevere under unpleasant and adverse conditions.

Vita: Born May 26, 1931, in Rockingham; bachelor’s from Davidson College and law degree from UNC Chapel Hill; wife, three sons and four grandchildren. Why he chose this field: I was associate general counsel of Carolina Power & Light Co. and general counsel for Hanes Corp. and First Union Corp. prior to joining the firm in 1978. I have always been interested in business and what makes it tick. What he’d be if not a lawyer: In some phase of business. Memorable case: This year we completed the acquisition of all the stock of a large manufacturing company headquartered in the Northeast but with plants all over the world. The stock was acquired by an individual and trusts for his company. He is the son of the founder, and the acquisition was done through a division of estate assets. Passions: Integrity, my family, my friends, my law partners. Hero: A draw between George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Don’t ask him to: Cheat or tell a lie. Recently read: Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin, about Lincoln and his cabinet. One of my all-time favorites is Peter the Great by Robert Massie.
