My mountain bike is one of my most prized possessions. Riding on the trails of western North Carolina makes me feel like a kid again.

Vita: Born Nov. 28, 1946, in Lexington, Ky.; bachelor’s from Western Kentucky University and law degree from George Washington University; wife and one child. Why he chose this field: In the summer after my junior year in college, I did an internship in an engineering department at a General Electric facility and became acquainted with a GE patent attorney who influenced my decision. Memorable case: The American Angus Association vs. Sysco Corp. regarding the Certified Angus Beef trademark. Every time I went to court, someone from the clerk’s office would ask, “Where’s the beef?” What he’d be if not a lawyer: A park ranger. Hero: My dad, a Silver Star recipient during World War II. Passions: Sports played with round balls — other than cricket and polo. Favorite book: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Don’t ask me to: Tell you whom I intend to vote for.
