Mecklenburg County's unemployment rate fell to 8.8% in March, compared to 9.3% the year before, according to the N.C. Department of Commerce. The Charlotte metro's unemployment rate was also 8.8% for the month.

PepsiCo's CEO said Tuesday at its shareholder's meeting in New Bern that it will hold the annual meeting going forward in the city, which is the birthplace of the soft drink. The company is now headquartered in Purchase, N.Y.
