2009 Small Business of the Year

This was the fourteenth year Business North Carolina magazine chose a Small Business of the Year to honor the contributions small businesses make to our state’s economy. The award, sponsored by BB&T, provides an opportunity for a company to gain statewide recognition.

We looked for profitable, independently-owned companies that have been in business more than five years and have fewer than 100 employees. At least one owner is active in the company.

To kick off the competition this year, nomination forms appeared in the April, May and June  2009 issues of the magazine.

We honored the winners and finalists, and the business communities that have supported their efforts, at an awards luncheon December 9, 2009 at the Broyhill Inn and Appalachian Conference Center in Boone, N.C..
